Tasting Notes
Colour: Bright red with a youthful purple edge.
Nose: Sangiovese displays its glorious array of aromas!  Deep scented ripe red berry and cherry fruit, sweet succulent liquorice and cinnamon spice, as well as hearty, sometimes meaty, clove and turmeric herbaceous spice.
Palate: Sangiovese takes the driving seat on this exhilarating flavor adventure. Soft velvety tannins play an integral part in directing the intensity of different taste sensations. This wine is naturally balanced, with acidity and fruit sweetness effortlessly playing off each other.
Blend Information
80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc
Food Suggestions
Great for an indulgent start to any culinary affair! It pairs perfectly with soulful food made with love, accentuating fresh ingredients in dishes like ripe Pomodoro and parmesan risottos, or spaghetti with spicy rich bolognaise sauce.
In The Vineyard

This was the earliest start to any season in more than 40 years. Budding was earlier, so too were flowering and grape set caused by a warmer November and December. It was also quite dry, with November 2014 being the last nice wet spell. What seemed like an unpredictable harvest delivered good surprises with the 2015 wines showing great quality.

In The Cellar
18 months barrel mature, with 20% in new tight grain French oak and 40% each in fourth and fifth fill barrels.
Bottling was done on 10 August 2017
Additional Information
Morgenster Tosca 2015 displays the amazing promise of South African Sangiovese in line with owner Giulio Bertrand’s belief that great Italian wine can be made in the Italian manner from great imported Italian clones on Morgenster.

Named for Bertrand’s love of the Italian opera of the same title, Morgenster Tosca 2015 is the 12th crop from his prized 1.8 ha vineyard of Sangiovese.

The philosophy behind the wine, according to cellar master Henry Kotzé, is to emulate the world’s most renowned Sangiovese Super Tuscan wine - Vini Tenuta Tignanello - made by Marchesi Antinori.

Selected Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc barrels were chosen to complement the incredible flavours of the Sangiovese resulting in a classically styled wine of depth and complexity, only starting on its path of evolution.
