Wines Vineyards Harvesting Cellar Processing

CARUSO 2009

This third label of Morgenster's Italian Collection makes its debut a year after Tosca and Nabucco. Having crafted a Super Tuscan from Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot last year, Italian owner Giulio Bertrand has now created what he calls a little brother of Tosca. Sangiovese is the grape of Chianti, the great red wine from Tuscany. It also produces very good Rosé wine. In line with his philosophy on all Morgenster products Bertrand has made limited quantities of Rosé that match the best in the world. Since suitable opera names that linked to Tosca and Nabucco were too long, Bertrand decided to name this wine after Enrico Caruso, the tenor whose powerful voice was celebrated for its beauty and richness of tone. The Sangiovese grapes that produce this Rosé have also achieved international acclaim and are a fitting tribute to a legend who is still considered by many to be the greatest singer of all time.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS The quality of this years harvest can be seen as outstanding. Due to the cooler spring and summer weather conditions, the harvesting period was delayed which meant slow even ripening with stunning flavours.

Winemaker comments
COLOUR A bright pomegranate red that extends an appealing invitation to the eye.
NOSE The first impression is of candy and candyfloss. On the second layer a streak of fresh red berries amplified by spice adds zest and magic.
PALATE The collective impression of the bouquet carries to the palate, leaving an explosive freshness of berries and cinnamon spice. The mouth feel is balanced and super friendly with the aftertaste leaving a feel of sorbet cleanliness without being short.
