MORGENSTER 2000 (sold out)
Strict quality philosophies, uncompromising passion, ideal terroir
and the trio of Italian born owner Giulio Bertrand, legendary Cheval Blanc
régisseur and Morgenster consultant Pierre Lurton and Winemaker
Marius Lategan have combined to produce this gem of South African wines.
Of the wine Marius says: "the hand of consultant, master blender
Pierre Lurton is written all over this wine"; his modesty hides his
own obsession with elegance and determination to showcase the Morgenster
signature in his wines.
Newly released, this wine appeared in the 2004 edition of the John
Platter guide with this tasting note by John Platter himself: "limpid
but laden with fine primary (& so promising delicate secondary,
tertiary) flavours; supple texture for elegance. Prune, fig and aniseed
notes line up beside more conventional cedary-cinnamon, spicy-oak,
blackcurrant Bordeaux prerequisites. An overall soft mineraliness coats
ripe tannins." This wine went on to be awarded the coveted 5*
treatment by Decanter magazine, December 2003.

Winemaker comments by
Marius Lategan |
| COLOUR |
Dense, rich, plum red |
| NOSE |
On the intro, the presence of blackberries, pepper and
spice show the slight dominance of the Cabernets. |
| PALATE |
The dense, complex mouth feel identifies elegant balance
between the classic oak tannins and equality between fresh ripe
berry flavours and ripe integrated varietal tannins. |
